It’s been a wet spring, and farmers across the region have been concerned about excessive rainfall and flooding. (It’s also bad on the West Coast.) You may have seen our Facebook post of the local news station that interviewed local farmers, including yours truly.
Our situation here is pretty good – we are well above the riverbank so I don’t expect any high water flooding. The other ways farms can flood is rain saturating the soil, then standing in the fields. It doesn’t take long to drown a crop or lose a harvest if it rots in the field.
We feel pretty well situated here, with a lot of growing space under cover with multiple high tunnels and low tunnels. We are planning to replace a couple more that got destroyed in high winds earlier this year. So we don’t expect much, if any water damage here, we are blessed in that.
